Well that's about it now folks --- I will hopefully see the product of our efforts next week. I wouldn't be waiting for it to show up on HBO or the Sundance channel any time soon, but it was a very worthwhile experience. I hear through the family grapevine that folks are already planning our next foray into film making. I'll let you know what's up with that as things gel.
Hope you've enjoyed this blog. You've now reached the end of the internet. There is absolutely no more to see. Turn off your computer and go outside and enjoy the terra firma.

Memorable Quotes:
Director: Ok, everyone back on set.
Actress: Hey, hold on - I'm bleeding!
Director: From where?
-------------
"But Daddy I can't show him cleavage in this shirt - I can put by boobs in his face though."
The latter exchange is between Father (actor/writer) and his daughter (actress/producer) in regards to the last scene where her character (the hooker) approaches a car and leans in.
-------------
Actor: Guess how many times I say 'fuck'?
-------------
Asst. Director/everything: You want to cast some Hell's Angels?
Director: Who them? (pointing to the H.A.'s up the street)
Asst. Director/everything: Uh yeah - they want to be in the film.
Director: Do we have to?

We did it! The 'film' is in the can (metaphorically anyway because we shot digital). It is amazing what can be done in a little less than 72 hours. Despite some rather colorful challenges like having to move locations the day before shoot day, drunken actors, planes overhead, grumpy liquor store owners and a couple of taciturn Hell's Angels - we completed shooting while the sun was still up. There are many colorful anecdotes that I plan to string out over the next couple of weeks (so you HAVE to check back) but I'll start by setting things up a bit more for you.
The scene we shot consists of dialogue between four people and a brief introduction to the central character, Jimmy the narc who gets murdered by Tom, Steve and their two friends.
Characters:
Sue, a 21 year old prostitute and part time cocktail waitress. Has the hots for Jimmy.
Bud, itinerant, vagrant, mid fifties, ex convict who’s ‘been around’ and keeps his bleary eyes peeled for an easy score. Has the hots for Sue.
Tom, young punk in his early twenties and has been up to no good for as long as he can remember. Mugs bums and deals low end drugs. A two bit thug who considers himself a serious badass. Has the hots for Sue.
Steve, young Mormon kid from a middle class family, bent on living the wild life. Seeks his fortune in illegal activities, drugs and petty crime. Lives in a day rate fleabag hotel with Tom and 2 other like minded guys his age. Has the hots for Sue.
Jimmy, 32 year old police officer who has spent the last 2 years in the undercover narcotics unit of the Reno PD. Handsome, very likeable and about as cool as they come. His skills and arrest record have kept in undercover detail twice as long as usually allowed. Knows that Sue has the hots for him and works that to his advantage in order to have her set up deals he can bust.
Location: June 1979 - Exterior of liquor store in seedy part of downtown Reno & street nearby. We filmed on the lower end of the "Avenue" in Ventura, CA.
Plot: Bud exits liquor store with breakfast in hand (half pint of Jack Daniels) and spots Sue trolling the sidewalk. They are chatting when Tom and Steve approach them.
Sue has been working for Jimmy in order to keep herself out of jail and to score points with him. She is intent on setting Tom and Steve up with Jimmy for a big time drug deal so Jimmy can bust them. Bud, an unwelcome party in this conversation, complicates things by warning the guys that this guy Jimmy could be "the heat". Sue has no idea that Tom and Steve plan on murdering Jimmy, whom they think is a pimp and lowlife drug dealer. Oh the irony.
Check out the next post to find out just how many times the word "fuck" or variants thereof were uttered (scripted and unscripted).
